Position: Executive Director, Ohio Young Democrats

The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the nation’s largest youth-led, partisan political
organization. As the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since 1932, YDA now operates as an independent 527 organizations. Our membership includes middle school, high school and college students as well as young workers, young professionals and young families, with over 1,500 local chapters in all 50 states. YDA’s national and state staff work with national, state, and local leaders across the country on peer-to-peer young voter mobilization campaigns, issue advocacy, leadership and skills trainings, and other activities to grow sustainable chapters and build the national infrastructure of YDA.

The Ohio Young Democrats (OYD) is the official youth arm of the Ohio Democratic Party, comprised of progressive people under the age of 36.

Job Description: The Young Democrats of America is continuing to expand state-based staff as part of our State Partnership Programs. State Executive Directors work to build long-term infrastructure for the youth movement. The Ohio Young Democrats Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Ohio Young Democrats and to Senior State Executive Director of the Young Democrats of America. The position is based in Columbus, OH.

The Ohio Young Democrats Executive Director is responsible for the overall implementation
of programs on behalf of the Ohio Young Democrats and the Young Democrats of America.
This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Manage the daily operations of the Ohio Young Democrats.
  • Organize Young Democrats chapters in targeted counties across the state and work to
    strengthen existing chapters.
  • Work with the OYD Executive Board to develop and implement the Ohio Young Democrats
    Strategic Plan, specifically planning and implementing peer-to-peer campaign activities,
    chapter building activities, and coordinating with other progressive grassroots organizations.
  • Create and fund yearly budget, ensuring that the budget is met through effective
    donor solicitation and marketing efforts. Work with OYD Treasurer to meet financial
    reporting requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate events such as Executive Board and Committee meetings,
    convention activities, regular conferences, and trainings.
  • Handle all media, scheduling, communication, and appearance requests for Ohio
    Young Democrats and the Ohio Young Democrats President.
  • Continue collaborative and cooperative relationships with the Ohio Democratic Party, Young
    Democrats of America, the Ohio College Democrats and other progressive groups to ensure
    high visibility and effective activism.
  • Manage additional temporary campaign staff brought on to complete the OYD’s peer-to-peer campaign program.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits: $30,000 to $40,000 annually, health insurance, and reimbursement for
cell phone.

Campaign Corps, a project of EMILY’s List, is a national grassroots program dedicated to politically empowering young people. Each year we train talented recent college graduates (both from undergraduate and graduate) and place them on targeted, progressive Democratic campaigns. Formerly known as Participation 2000, Campaign Corps has been bringing young people into the political process since 1988. We’ve placed hundreds of staffers on some of the most important political campaigns in the country—providing young people with the first step in a career dedicated to progressive politics.

We are recruiting for the Campaign Corps Class of 2008. Applications are available online at http://www.campaigncorps.org and are due April 14th, 2008. Once selected, a diverse group of staffers will come to Washington for a week-long Campaign School, where they will learn the basics of political campaigning – voter targeting, field organizing, fundraising, and press strategy – from the country’s leading Democratic operatives. Staffers are paid to work side by side with candidates and other political professionals for the last three months of the campaign. After Election Day, Campaign Corps brings staffers back to DC for a post-election retreat and debriefing. Campaign Corps will help you launch your career in progressive politics!

Position:  Young Democrats of Arizona Chapter Organizers.

Where: One Chapter Organizer based in Maricopa County, and one Chapter Organizer based in Pima County.

Hours: Part time, minimum of 20 hours per week.

Salary:  $500 Monthly Stipend.

Job Description:  The Young Democrats of Arizona Chapter Organizers report directly to the Executive Director of the Young Democrats of Arizona (YDAZ). The YDAZ Chapter Organizers are responsible for the implementation of projects as assigned on behalf of the Young Democrats of Arizona and the Young Democrats of America.  This includes, but is not limited to:

·        Chartering new chapters using leads provided by YDAZ, aiding them in finding sponsors and meeting other school requirements,

·        Organizing region events including meetings, happy hours, and organizing conventions,

·        Developing and maintaining a YDAZ internet membership building strategy,

·        Scheduling officer/ staff visits to the new and current chapters as needed,

Internship Opportunities

LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION
The Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) is the official body of the
Democratic Party in Los Angeles County and the largest local Democratic Party
entity in the United States. LACDP charters Democratic
clubs/organizations, takes endorsement positions on candidates and measures in local races, and
strategically targets and mobilizes for electoral campaign activities
throughout Los Angeles County.
In November 2007, LACDP will be strategically involved in over 120 local
races and will be heavily involved in building the Democratic Party’s
infrastructure in Los Angeles County, such as campaign mobilization and
get-out-the-vote operations, fundraising, special events, and voter outreach/registration.
The intern will be working closely with the LACDP Chairman and the LACDP
staff to assist in maintaining regular Party operations, plan special events,
and work as directed on special campaign related and Party-building activities
prior to the 2008 presidential election.
This internship is ideal for college students or recent graduates who are
interested in becoming involved in Democratic politics. The internship will be
based at the LACDP Headquarters in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles
(west of Downtown), but may require some travel to other parts of the County.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Level of involvement depends on the individual’s interest and time
availability. 15-20 hours per week is required.
Projects include, but not limited to:
· Administrative operations, such as filing and data entry
· Democratic Party meeting and special events planning
· Party services, such as mailings and phonebanking
· Volunteer/community outreach and coordination
· Voter registration and outreach
QUALIFICATIONS
The Intern will be expected to:
· Be committed to Democratic Party ideals and values
· Communicate clearly in writing and orally
· Have basic computer and office skills
· Handle multiple projects simultaneously
· Work both independently and as a member of a team

Internship, Humanities Council of Washington, DC

BRIEF HISTORY
The Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. is 1 of the 56 affiliates
of The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). It is a private,
nonprofit organization that funds and conducts humanities-based
cultural and educational programs for Washingtonians in every ward.
The HCWDC is not a Federal or a District agency. It is governed by a
23-member volunteer board, five of whom are appointed by the Mayor.

HCWDC is a diverse humanities organization that began in 1980 as a
grant making agency and has grown to become both a funder of
community projects and a provider of programs, ensuring that public
education in the humanities reach diverse audiences across wards,
neighborhoods, and cultures.

The work of the all departments of the Council is extremely time-
sensitive and demands high quality. As the Council has limited
resources, it is imperative each Intern practice effective time
management in the performance of their own duties. In addition,
Interns are expected to communicate their impending work deadlines at
the earliest possible occasion.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
We have several different opportunities in the following areas:
Programming; Communications; Development; Advocacy; and Grant making.

All interns will be expected to support all staff at the council with
on-going projects. This may take the form of: light clerical work;
research; filing; aspects of event planning; and other general office
support. In addition, interns will be given specific projects related
to the needs divided during the fiscal year. Special projects may
include, targeted research, outreach projects, and film and video
production assistance.

The qualities we are most seeking: Excellent communication skills in
writing. Organization, attention to detail, flexibility,
dependability, and the ability to work in diverse environments with
general public. There may be a small stipend available.

This internship is designed to help students explore the field they
are interested in, and applying classroom skills into true life
